Chrissy Canavan
Founder and Director

(954) 839-4889

Christine Canavan is the founder of A Granddaughter's Promise, a visionary and an inspiration.

What began as a personal quest with her dear Grandmother suffering with Alzheimer's, has become the force ignited by the desire to advocate for seniors who no longer have the voice they once had.

As an entrepreneur, Chrissy is a courageous leader moved by passion and determination to inform, educate, and advocate for the seniors she serves. Her goal is to provide, at no cost to the family, the knowledge she has obtained through her own personal journey.

Born and raised in Old Orchard beach, Maine, and later, Oswego, New York, Chrissy's heartfelt compassion for others began at a young age. This was made evident in her studies when she earned a degree in Special Education at the University of Maine. She is also certified in Alzheimer's disease Education through the Aging Institute, and is currently working on her Administrator certification.

There is a sense of kindness and charisma in everything she touches. She won the title of the 1988 Miss Maine U.S.A. Amity Award and also founded Mommy Entrepreneur, a company to help moms start in-home businesses to contribute an income while staying at home with their children.

As well as being a co-founder of the Children's Hunger Project in Brevard County, Chrissy serves on the Board of Directors for the Children's Home Society and the Florida Bar Grievance Committee. Everything she does is about serving others. God has given her such a compassion and love for people that she never stops serving through her various ministries.

Chrissy is married to Michael Canavan and they have three beautiful children together. Their church home is Calvary Chapel Melbourne. She loves to sing, travel, and whale watch back home in Maine with her loving family.

Chrissy's message to our world is: "Realize that the elderly are the only minority we all become, and we need to start paying attention to them."

Sarah Newman is a long-time resident of Brevard County. She has been with A Granddaughter's Promise since August of 2008. In that time, Sarah has had the opportunity to help many families and has an extremely loving heart towards the elderly. If you ask her what her driving force is she would tell you that it is informing our community of our hand-picked facilities. Sarah graduated cum laude from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration and a minor in Law Studies. She worked in the medical industry for 13 years prior to A Granddaughter's Promise, and was never aware of the very special and unique environments that assisted living can provide. She is concerned that everyday, families are placing their loved ones in nursing homes without being made aware of all the options that are available.

Sarah also has a special place in her heart for our veterans. She has made connections that enable us to get information to veterans about financial benefits that are available to them for assisted living, from the Veteran's Administration.

Sarah's servant heart has been a wonderful addition to A Granddaughter's Promise. She has compassion and dedication to our elderly population and we are very pleased to have her as part of our team. When Sarah is not working she enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons. She is also active in her church as a small group leader.

Sylvia Schell joined A Granddaughter's Promise in June 2010, as an Office Manager.  She is originally from Wyoming, where she worked as Assistant Deputy County Clerk. Sylvia also co-owned and operated an electrical contracting company.  During that time she served as the Music Minister in her church, which eventually led to her doing a television ministry. She has also traveled all across the country performing at gospel concerts. After moving to Florida in 1989, she worked as a Schedules Analyst at Kennedy Space Center.

In addition to working with A Granddaughter's Promise, Sylvia is an internationally known Dance Instructor/Choreographer, holding classes for the City of Cape Canaveral, the City of Melbourne, and Brevard County Parks and Recreation. She also teaches workshops in various places.

Sylvia truly has a heart for the elderly and finds it to be a joy to meet them at our events. She finds great reward in telling people about the options they have available to them in assisted living, and sharing in their relief that there are safe and caring places for their loved ones.

When she is not working, Sylvia enjoys spending time with her family, reading, dancing, and traveling.

Toni Cambria

(321) 213-4864

Toni is the newest addition to A Granddaughter's Promise. She and her husband of 23 years have been residents of Florida for the past 6 years. She is a native New Yorker and a diehard Yankee fan (try not to hold it against her). Although her heart belongs to New York, Toni firmly believes in the saying: "Bloom where you're planted," and that's exactly what she's determined to do.

Toni has expressed just how blessed she feels to be a part of A Granddaughter's Promise. Her goal is to help lift as many burdens as she possibly can from the shoulders of those who have been caring for their loved ones. It is her desire to educate everyone she comes into contact with about A Granddaughter's Promise and the services that are offered. Toni's servant's heart is mindful of Matthew 25:40, "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Toni is one of those girls that you just can't keep down. If she's not playing softball, then she's playing tennis, bowling, or playing taxi driver to any one of her three beautiful daughters. She brings all that energy, and more, to A Granddaughter's Promise where she is happiest bringing help, hope, and comfort to all those she meets.
